Thanks to the generous support of Central Bedfordshire Council and Ampthill Town Council, SHARE: Flitwick and Ampthill now have two FLIR thermal imaging cameras to share with the community.

Thermal imaging cameras can be used to identify areas in your home where heat is leaking out (or cold is sneaking in), helping you to keep your home warmer by draught-proofing and/or adding extra insulation where needed. This may help you to save on energy costs. Thermal imaging cameras are ideally used when there is at least a 10 degree difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures and you will need a smart phone in order to use the FLIR cameras that we have to loan.

The user manual for our FLIR ONE Edge Pro Thermal Imaging Cameras can be found here

We are operating a waiting list, so if you would like to borrow a camera for a few days then please fill in this form and we will contact you when one becomes available. Meanwhile, we would highly recommend watching the Thermal Imaging Training provided by our friends at Cambridge Carbon Footprint, who have been operating a highly successful thermal imaging camera loan scheme for a number of years. This should give you a much better idea of how to get the best out of the thermal imaging camera and how to understand what it is showing you.

Armed with your findings, you may want to look at advice regarding how to keep your home warmer. There is helpful advice from the Energy Saving Trust about insulation and draught-proofing measures.

Once you have used one of our cameras, we’d be very grateful if you could fill in our quick survey form for each building surveyed.
