Library of Things

Borrowing cycle

A library of things is just like a normal library but for ‘things’ – all sorts of things – rather than books.

Rather than buying new when you need something for a task, why not borrow it? Our library of things aims to stock a large range of handy items such as pressure washers, hedge cutters, sewing machines, camping equipment, gazebos, carpet cleaners, juicers…the list goes on. Borrowing rather than buying saves money, saves space and helps to save the planet.

Did you know that, on average, a power drill is used for a total of just 13 to 15 minutes throughout its lifetime? Let’s get these items working harder by borrowing rather than buying!

Here at SHARE: Flitwick and Ampthill we want to make your leisure time easier and cheaper. Borrow – don’t buy – what you need for that DIY task, party or camping trip (and much more!) and enjoy saving money as well as space in your home.

We are adding new things to our inventory all the time. However, if we don’t currently stock something that you’d be interested in borrowing then please let us know as we might be. able to source it for you.

To borrow something, simply:

  • Sign up as a member of SHARE: Flitwick and Ampthill if you aren’t already. We’ll be thrilled to have you on board!
  • Make sure you are logged in
  • Find the item(s) that you want to borrow, check that they’re available when you’d like to borrow them and then reserve them. Alternatively, email or pop in to see us and we can help with this.
  • Pick them up from The Rufus Centre on the dates that you’ve chosen (please bring proof of ID and address on your first visit)
  • Enjoy using the items!
  • Return the items on the date that you chose. Please try to return them in as good – or better – condition than when you borrowed them.
Everyone is Welcome signage

We love feedback so please let us know how you got on. If there were any problems or if there is anything else that we should know then please tell us so that we can continue to learn and fix anything before lending it to someone else.
